Dwarf PalmThe Dwarf Palmetto, botanical name Sabal Minor, is a member of Arecaceae family and Sabal genus.  The Dwarf palm is also known as the Palmetto, Bush Palmetto and Swamp Palmetto.

Native to the southeastern of the United States it grows from Texas to North Carolina and Florida. The palm occurs near roads, coastal areas, swamps, wet hardwood hammocks, forests and lowlands.

The Dwarf palm is the hardiest of the Sabal genus. These species can grow in extremely cold areas with snow and freezing weather. It is one of the hardiest of all palm trees (the second hardiest after Needle palm). It is able to survive periods of temperature lower 0 F. This palm can grow in most northern regions. It will look great and bring tropical feel to any place.

The Dwarf Palmetto is a bushy plant with subterranean stem and costapalmate leaves. This shrub grows in width but not much in length. The low growing palm forms dense thickets.

This shrub is adaptable to many environments. It wil thrive in a wide range of soils. The Sabal Minor will do well even with very little sunlight. It will tolerate salt spray and hurricanes. The Sabal Minor is resistant to all kinds of pests and diseases. It can live up to 400 years.

The Dwarf palm is easily propagated by seeds.
